Storytelling is a wonderful medium to excite the imagination and a love of language. Make up special stories and take your child on a fun journey!

1. When your child is very young, you can begin to make up stories for them.

2. Create fairytale-like adventures and travel to far away places in the imagination.

3. Make up silly words to give to your characters and places (i.e., a long time ago in the land of gluck, there lived a goo goo bird?

4. Let your child draw pictures to go along with your stories.

5. Include your child? name in the story (soon he or she will be able to write it without help).

6. Use words that are easy to spell.

7. Describe colors in your story and encourage your child to read the words red, blue and green on the crayon wrappers.

8. Continue until they begin making up their own stories to share with you!

9. Find out where storytellers are performing in your town and take your child to see them.

10. The more comfortable your child is with creating stories, the easier it will be for them to learn to read other peoples?work.
