Take time to introduce your child to the value of the local library and all the amazing stories and resources that can be found there. It's a life-long investment in their learning!1. Make it a fun activity to visit the local library. Get an ice cream cone on the way and talk about what the library offers.
2. Find a special space to quietly read together.
3. Encourage your child to be excited by the vast numbers of books to be explored at the library and all the great stories and information they can find.
4. Get your child a library card.
5. Explain how the library works, check out a few books of interest together.
6. Make a book chart at home. For each book read, add a star to the chart.
7. Have your child set a goal of how many books he or she would like to complete over three months.
8. When your child succeeds, buy a special book (one of his or her favorites) to add to the family collection.
9. Visit the library often, making sure trips are always a treat.
10. As your child grows, more of the library will become available and useful to him or her. The more visits you make, the more comfortable and confident your child will feel about navigating all of the available resources.
