Description of technique for teaching kids the value of money:
My daughter loves playing with money and playing games. Here's a fun game that strengthens your young child's understanding of how many pennies make up each coin denomination.

To play this game you'll need a dice and 10 of each coin (penny, nickel, dime and quarter). Depending on the age and skill level of your child, you may want to start by using just two different coins, until they have a better understanding of the coins and their values.

The object of the game is be the first player with 25 cents saved. Take turns rolling the dice. Each player gets the amount of pennies shown on the die. As each player accumulates 5 pennies or more, the 5 pennies are traded in for a nickel and so on.

Kids will quickly understand the fact that a dime is worth 10 pennies, that a nickel is worth five, and that less coins doesn't necessarily mean less money.

Let your child keep the money they win to add to their piggy bank savings.
