Project instructions or description:
Collages provide a great way for kid to explore art through different colors shapes and textures. And they're fun and simple to do! Here's how:

For Younger Kids:

1. Work with your kids to cut out circles, squares and triangles from construction or tissue paper.

2. For less mess, you can use a glue stick. If you don't mind a mess, have your child brush wet glue onto the paper.

3. Help kids choose one shape at a time, have them glue the shapes onto the paper.

4. Talk about what colors and shapes they are using, and how they're making interesting designs.

5. Hang up the finished "work of art" to show your kids how much you appreciate their creations.

For Older Kids:

1. Let your kids cut out the shapes and images they'd like to use.

2. Talk about different designs, colors, how things might be laid out, and how they might balance well on the page.

3. By integrating these ideas into the artwork, your kids will move beyond random placement of images.

4. This will stimulate your kids to understand that by taking time to figure out how a work can be laid out, the finished product will have more meaning to it.

5. There is no limit with collage. Add leaves and dried flowers collected in nature, add beads and buttons for dimension, add words cut out of magazines, the possibilities are endless.

6. If your kids love this art form, build on the concept!

7. Why not collage an old bottle or wooden box?

8. Coat the final product with a decoupage paste or shellac so the work lasts a long time.
