Appropriate age group(s):
8 and up.

Description of technique:
Another fun way for your child to gain some freedom and independence is to give him or her some responsibilities around the house. Cooking is a great job for your child to try. Let them start with a weekend breakfast (this is for the child who has already spent a few years with you in the kitchen and understands what is appropriate behavior). Allow time to consider the menu, shop for ingredients and create mini feasts; itĘs important that your child gets to make all the decisions. Cooking and cleaning up afterwards can be a big job, by taking on these new responsibilities, your child can begin to gain an understanding that adults work hard. He or she might realize that being a kid for a little bit longer is not such a bad idea.
