Appropriate age group(s):
toddler to elementary

Values taught:
Any and all, especially bravery, kindness, thoughtfulness, generosity, and fairness.

Description of technique for teaching kids values:
As you read the paper, look for articles that mention a good action by someone. Share the story with your kids, explaining why it was good the person did that. For example, share a story about a firefighter saving someone, kids collecting money to help a cause, a lawsuit where the "good guys" won.

Other comments or suggestions:
Good stories usually show up in the paper's metro section, obituaries (great personal stories!), and sports.
