Description of technique for teaching kids values:
Good citizenship starts by being a responsible, contributing member of your community. Taking care of yourself, the animals and the earth are examples of good citizenship. Adopt the attitude that if you don't do it, no one will. Help your child plan and carry out an environmental project for your school or community.

Invite a speaker from the local beautification community to speak at your school. (The library is a good place to find out who you should contact and what local resources are available in your neighborhood.) Find out what types of service projects are needed in your area. Pick one and put together a step-by-step plan to get it done! Here are some ideas to get you started: Clean up litter, Adopt a pothole in your town and fix it, Recycle items from your school such as paper, cans and bottles, Plant trees near your school or local park, Find homes for abandoned pets.
