A few hours

Materials needed (if applicable):
rocks
food coloring
water
4 tablespoons liquid bluing
4 tablespoon salt
4 teaspoons ammonia (mixes last)
2 glass bowls
logbook and pencil
crushed charcoal
dry environment
logbook and pencil

Project instructions or description of technique:
1) With your study of rocks, crystals are a very special rock that pops up.

2) Here? a very simple experiment to observe crystallization (parent must be present for mixing solution).

3) Fill a glass bowl with a thin layer of crushed charcoal.

4) Arrange your selected rocks onto the charcoal, mixing shapes and sizes.

5) Mix in another glass bowl (metal is not good):

food coloring
1/2 cup water
4 Tbsp. liquid bluing
4 Tbsp. salt
4 tsp. ammonia

6) Pour mixture over rocks.

7) Wait a few hours, record observations.
