What Grows Faster?

K-5

Estimated time to complete project or implement technique:
2 hours project, 1-month observation

Materials needed (if applicable):
vegetable and flower seeds
beans
Dixie cups
potting soil
ruler
box (optional)
logbook and pencil

Project instructions or description of technique:
1) Choose a special space in your house to create your growing experiment.

2) Line Dixie cups in a row on a windowsill or place in a box.

3) Fill cups with approximately 2 inches of potting soil.

4) Punch finger into center of each cup of soil.

5) Fill each cup with a separate seed or bean.

6) Label your cups.

7) Water until moist.

8) Each day watch the growth process and record results.

9) When seedlings appear at surface, measure their progress and record.

10) Make a graph and chart which plant grows the fastest.
