Will Yeast Make Bread Rise If it Is Too Cold?

K-5

Estimated time to complete this project:
One Day

Materials:
A yeast-white bread recipe times two.

Instructions:
Make two identical loaves of bread. Rise one in the refrigerator, rise one on the back of the stove at 100-110 Degrees, as recommended on the yeast package.
Chart the growth of each loave of bread every 15 minutes.

Other comments or suggestions:
This was an awesome project for my third grade son. He enjoyed making the bread on his own, and eating it when it was baked! (BTW, if you place the refrigerator loaf on the back of the stove at the end of the experiement, it too will begin to rise.) Enjoy and Eat up!
