Appropriate grades or age groups:
4th grade and up.

Estimated time to complete this project:
One month.

Materials:
thermometer
heart rate monitor
stop watch
chocolate
Kool-Aid
soda
non-caffeine soda
fruit juice
fruit
vegetable juice
vegetables
cookies
crackers

Instructions:
1) Research your body chemistry, what your body needs on a daily basis, what is a balanced diet and what effects food have on your physical and emotional body. Based on the food choices you will experiment with, hypothesize on how your body will respond.

2) Each day choose a different snack food to eat. Some are healthy and others are not so healthy.

3) Set a time each day to have a snack (it? important that the time is always the same).

4) Take your temperature and pulse prior to eating your snack. Record in logbook.

5) Take your temperature and pulse 30 minutes and then 60 minutes after you eat. Record results.

6) Observe your mood.

7) How is your energy? Are you sluggish or alert? Record results.

8) Do you notice any subtle chemical reactions like hives or headaches? Record results.

9) Make a graph that records any temperature change or pulse.

10) What foods made you moody, relaxed, clear, foggy?

11) Your observations might lead you to take certain foods out of your diet based on how well you respond to them.
