Description of discipline technique:
P.E.T., By Dr. Thomas Gordon, doesn't use punishment, rewards or time outs. Instead it teaches children to be self-reliant using non-power means. It doesn't mean that parents let kids get away with problem behaviors. It means that problems are addressed and mutually-satisfying solutions are sought and implemented.

Do kids learn to stop doing bad things when they are punished? Or do they learn to not do those things in front of you???

I prefer for my kids to learn WHY they shouldn't do things, not just stop doing them because they'll get punished if they're caught.
