Description of discipline technique:
I'm a young, single mother and I believe that a child does not learn from being spanked. When a parent spanks them, they think that it's ok if Mommy or Daddy does it, so why can't they? When my child misbehaves in a public place or at home, I take 5 minutes to myself and think about that he/she has done and think about what I can do instead of spanking them. I might take a toy away for the day or something that means a lot to them and put it away where they can't get it. The other day I was in K-mart and this lady had 3 kids with her and one wanted a toy (he was maybe 1 year old). She said "no," very nicely, to him and then he started to scream. I turned around and she had slapped the child and he had turned around and hit her back. So that is one of my reasons not to spank or hit a child. They don't learn anything from it, except that it's ok to spank or hit.
