Description of discipline technique:
As parents, we go to work every day not only because we have to pay the rent, but because there are incentives to do so. We work hard hoping for a good raise, a big bonus and praise and respect from our boss and co-workers. Well, kids operate the same way. Why not give them some incentive for doing the right thing. The next time your child is giving you a hard time about cleaning their room, say "We'll wait to have dessert until after you clean up your room" or "After you have calmed down, you can come back to the table." This helps reinforce to your child that their efforts are valued and that hard work does pay off.

Appropriate age group(s):
K-5 on up.
