Other suggestions or comments:
OK, this is the age-old argument. Fathers like spanking, Mothers like time-outs. (Sounds sexist, but statistically, it's true). Here's the thing. Consistancy is most important. Spanking works, but so will time outs. As for us, we use spanking for direct defiance issues, and a variety of other methods for mistakes (mainly talking to your children). For instance, we do not spank for spilling chocolate milk on the couch, but we would spank for disobeying, such as if we had told them not to have their chocolate milk on the couch. What is the result? We have 6 kids who listen well and get along fairly well. Are they more aggressive? Not in a bad way. They show lots of confidence and are generally happy kids. Do they act out? Sometimes, kind of like real people in real life. Are they perfect? No. Is anyone? No. Overall, with 6 kids, spanking is fast and effective. Time-outs work equally as well, but take more time than we have.
