Description of discipline technique:
I am a mother of 7 children, all of whom I love dearly. Like all children, they each make their fair share of mistakes, and their mistakes are punished in different ways in different circumstances.
For example, my four year old recently began finding humor in pulling down his underwear and pushing his bottom in the faces of those around him. One time, he pulled down his pants in front of me, and I spanked it 4 or 5 times; he pulled them up. He occasionally does it again, but once he feels my hand against his bottom, he stops. These instances have happened much less frequently now.
Moving on to my 13 year old, who never remembers to clean her room. One time I said that she had until Friday to clean her room. Saturday I woke up to find her room a mess (still). I told her to cancel all her plans for the day. After she cleaned her room, she was going to clean the rest of the house.
One time my 14 year old sneaked out of the house and went to the mall with a boy I didn't know. This was an especially bad offense because she was lying. She was grounded for 3 months.
Finally, my 15 year old son had some driving lessons with my husband, and was a decent driver. Still, we made it clear that he shouldn't get in the car without permission (and without an adult, as he didn't even have his learner's permit yet). One day, an "emergency" came up (he had to visit his friend), and he "borrowed" the car for an hour. My husband and I made him wait an extra six months to get his license.

Appropriate age group(s):
all

Other suggestions or comments:
I have good kids. I don't believe in punishments that make no sense. I don't believe in spanking kids of all ages for anything and everything.
