Estimated time to make this valentine:
varies

Appropriate age group(s):
Preschool and Younger
Elementary School

Materials:
Construction paper, doilies, stickers, ribbon and wrapped candy or baked treats, depending on the situation-explanation below.

Instructions:
Choose whichever style of homemade valentine you'd like to do-but keeping it simple is fine. Have your kids deliver them to the librarian, grocery store clerks, fire or police department, leave one for the letter carrier, an elderly neighbor, school friends, etc.

Other comments or suggestions to consider:
We have always made our valentines, since we have a large family and the boxed ones are expensive. When we began homeschooling, the kids wanted to still make them, so I thought we'd just share them with people around our small town. This is why it would depend on how well you know the people as to whether you'd choose to include something like a lollipop rather than a homebaked cookie or brownie. The girls leave them on the doorknob of friends who will see them after school, neighbors and others.
