Estimated time to make this valentine:
Approximately one hour.

Appropriate age group(s):
Preschool and Younger
Elementary School

Materials:
Paper (an 8" by 10" piece of paper is used in this example)
Scissors
Paint, markers or crayons

Instructions:
1. Fold the piece of paper in half lengthwise.
2. Cut out a 3" by 3" notch from the top open-fold side.
3. Fold the remaining portion of the paper that is sticking up (on the closed-fold side) down inside the card at an angle. This will be the piece that pops up when you open the card.
4. Cut the pop-up into a heart shape.
5. Decorate the front cover of the card with "Happy Valentines Day" or as you wish and add your own message inside.

Other comments or suggestions to consider:
This project is easy, fun and can be adapted to any holiday or special event by cutting out different shapes for the pop-up such as balloons, ovals (for a face), and Christmas or other holiday designs. Glitter pens or glue and sequins can add to the overall decoration.
