Description of technique:
I'm a music therapist. I can't tell you how many children and adults I have come across who tell me that they just can't sing. I used to teach deaf kids how to sing. EVERYONE can sing.
You are probably not these people, because you are looking at ideas for your musically gifted child, but I'd like to give you a phrase to watch out for in your life...
Most people who "can't" sing were once told in some way that they shouldn't or couldn't sing. Children believe what they are told, and it carries on in life. Maybe someone once said this to you or to a friend of yours? It has a bigger impact than people would ever imagine. The truth is, there are many ways to learn how to sing. Not everyone is opera material, but not everyone wants to be either.
People just say it because it's something to say. Most of the time they don't even mean it. I'm a trained vocalist and have performed in front of thousands of people in my life, and just the other day was told by someone, who thought it was funny, to "keep my day job". Little did they know....
