Description of technique:
To make your Hosepipe Panpipes:

1)Get plastic pipe or tubing, or rubber shower hose.
2) Cut tubing into eight pieces with 1st pipe being 8 inches long.
3) Cut each tube 1/2 inch shorter.
4) Tape tubes together--starting from smallest to largest--securing with tape at either end. Make sure to wind tape around one set of the pipes at one end and another piece around the other end.
5) Take small amounts of modeling clay and roll into plugs. Insert one into each of the pipes. (The idea behind this is to prohibit air from entering tubes. To make pitch higher push plug into pipe further with a dowel).

To Play: Blow across tops of pipes and not down into them!

Appropriate age group(s):
Elementary on up.

Other suggestions or comments:
While easy enough to make, playing the pipes may be frustrating for younger children as they'll have to learn to blow across the pipes (not down into them) to make a sound.
