Description of technique:
Here's how to make a Thumb Piano:
1) Sand a rectangular block of wood about the size of a potholder and about 1/2? to 1-1/4? thick.
2) Cut a thin strip of wood to fit across the width of the board (about an inch wide.
3) Stick four popsicle sticks over the edge of the block at different lengths.
4) Place the strip over the popsicle sticks and arrange the sticks on the block of wood until you find a position that you like the sound of.
5) Help your child nail the popsicle sticks on to the board securing the popsicle sticks in place (nail ends of strip first and then nail strip between each popsicle stick).
6) Paint with poster paints and when dry apply a coat of varnish.
7) Hold between hands and play the end of the sticks with your thumbs!
Appropriate age group(s): Preschool on up.

Younger kids will need a bit more parental help for this one!
