Description of technique:
Start saving your glass bottles or jars. A set of glasses will also do the trick. Fill each one with different amounts of water. Use pencils, pens or wooden spoons and tap the sides of each one of the bottles. Each one will produce a different note. Put eight of them together and see if you can create the entire scale. If you have a piano in the house, see if you can match up the bottle sounds to specific notes and then label the bottles. Take turns playing your favorite songs.

Appropriate age group(s):
Preschool on up.

Other suggestions or comments:
Try covering and uncovering the tops of the bottles or glasses with your hands to discover different effects on the sounds.
