Description of technique for limiting kids' TV-time:
We encourage our teen daughter read the newspaper and pay attention to current events. In order to earn television time, she has to complete a current events folder. This consists of 15 current events. For each event she needs a page of good notes. For each folder she completes, we give her 3 hours of television. She is allowed to hand in 1 folder a week, although she may work on them whenever she wants. Sometimes she likes to accumulate TV time and save it for weekends/summer. To ensure she doesn't save up 5 hours for Monday night, we allow her to turn in 30 minutes a day on school nights, 1 hour on non-school nights.

Appropriate age group(s):
10-18
