Briefly describe this fundraising event:
Have students collect pledges for a pre-determined distance to be walked. This could also be a walk-a-thon.

Organizing the event:
Send out flyers and pledge envelopes to students, creating extra for the enthusiastic walker. Local businesses were solicited to donate walk prizes, such as water park passes, movies passes, books, ice cream, etc. T-shirts were also printed and donated and given to each student who participated.

Capital possibilities:
Our last event raised in excess of $8,000.

Degree of difficulty:
Fairly simple, if you have several good workers.

Other suggestions or comments:
You could hold this at your school's athletic track, giving you concessions as an added fundraiser. Food items sold can also be donated by local businesses, giving you 100% profit. We also allowed a dicount bookseller to come and he shared a portion of his profits with us.
