Briefly describe this fundraising event:
Families bring Halloween treats and park at the school one evening on Halloween or a weekend before Halloween. The children come with participating families dressed in costume. The students go from car to car trunk-or-treating. Families can come early and have tailgate dinners. Trunks are encouraged to be decorated and prizes awarded to the best looking trunks. Children remain safe since the parking lot is closed off during the event. An admission fee is charged as cars enter the parking lot.
Organizing the event:
Send home flyers through school describing the event. Make sure parents are aware that once they have parked their car they will not be allowed to leave early. The parking lot needs to be a safe place for children to roam. Have volunteers available to direct traffic and collect admission fee. A whistle is blown at the end of the evening to signify that all children need to return to their cars. Another whistle is blown to signal when the cars may leave.
Capital possibilities:
The admission fee should be whatever seems reasonable for the area you live in. We are in a Midwest suburbia parochial setting. We charge $5.00 a car and average between 200 and 225 vehicles.
Degree of difficulty:
Easy as can be. No products to handle or deliver. Volunteers are easy to get because they can join their families during the actual event. Often they dress in costume, too.
Other suggestions or comments:
A bullhorn or loud speaker of some kind is useful but not mandatory.
