Briefly describe this fundraising event:
On a Saturday, rent spaces in your parking lot. Bakers, crafters, etc. can sell their goods out of the back of their car/truck. Appeal to parents by having an area for children to play. Use your imagination and don't forget a table just to promote the school - recruit new students, volunteers, tutors...
Organizing the event:
Map out the selling area - be sure to leave room for parking! Recruit sellers with ads in church bulletins, community notice boards, etc. (Consider screening merchandise to be sold so there are no unpleasant suprises.) Are there political candidates that would give away balloons? Will the police come and promote "kid safety" with fingerprinting, etc.? Check with city hall about local ordinances and consider what you'll do about restrooms and providing trash containers.
Capital possibilities:
In addition to the space rental, the school makes $$ by having a concession stand, a raffle, and tables for their other fundraisers.
Degree of difficulty:
You need enough sellers and enough variety to appeal to shoppers. Effective advertising is essential both ahead of time and the day of the sale.
