Description of this celebration activity:
Use an old calendar to create a board game. Lay the calendar flat open to the first month. Position playing pieces on the 1st day/box. Roll dice to see how many spaces/days to move. You can make up your own rules, like if you roll a 2, you can roll again, or if you roll a 3, you have to move backward 3. Whoever gets to the last day of the month 1st wins that month's card and all pieces jump to the 1st day space on the next month's page. Whoever has the most cards at the end of the game wins.
Setting up and preparing for this celebration activity:
Cut out 12 cards from construction paper and label each one with a different month of the year. Have your kids help to decorate the cards with stickers or drawings that remind them of things that happen in that month. These cards will be used to keep score.
Other suggestions or comments:
Borrow dice and playing pieces/place markers from other board games. The calendar you use does not have to be from any particular year. I prefer one with scenic views that reflect the seasons. A spiral-bound calendar works best as it will lay flat.
