Sand Art Brownies in a Jar

Estimated time to make this gift:
30 minutes or less

Materials:
1 wide mouth quart size jar
a wooden spoon
salt, baking powder, flour, cocoa, white sugar, brown sugar, vanilla chips, chocolate chips, pecans & measuring cups
ribbon to tie tag with

Instructions:
Layer the following ingrediants in jar in this order:
3/4 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 cup flour plus 2 tbls. flour
1/3 cup cocoa powder
1/2 cup flour
2/3 cup brown sugar
2/3 cup white sugar
Now use handle of wooden spoon along the inside of glass to make valley in ingredients. Remember to vary the lenghths. This will make the ingredients look like a child's sand art project. Then add:
1/2 cup chocolate chips
1/2 cup vanilla chips (can substitute butterscotch or peanut butter)
1/2 cup pecans
Make sure that ingredients fill jar to packed level. This will keep the ingredients from shifting.
Add the following label to jar. (Can be designed to suit your needs on computer.)
Tag:
Merry Christmas
Sand Art Brownies
Mix contents of this jar with:
1 teaspoon vanilla
2/3 cup vegetable oil
3 eggs
Bake in a 9x9 pan, 30 minutes at 350 degrees.

Other comments or suggestions to consider:
My preschool age child loved to do the measuring. My 3rd grader loved then to layer it in the jar. With supervision, this is a great way to let the children feel like part of Christmas.
