Appropriate age group(s):
Preschool and Younger
Elementary School
Middle School
High School & Beyond
Estimated time to make this gift:
1/2 hour to 45 minutes
Materials:
Floral wire
Needle-nosed pliers
Small vine wreath (6-8" across)
Button collection, odd bits of jewelry/charms, trinkets
Tacky glue or hot glue gun that's not the hottest (all get plenty warm; be cautious)
Ribbon scrap or strip of cloth for a bow
Instructions:
Create a bendy little wire hanger for the top; the more bends and kinks it has, the better it looks---attach to the backside.
Look over your button collection, and have fun gluing buttons, charms, and thing-a-ma-jigs on the wreath until it is as full and gorgeous as you desire. Tie a bow to the little hanger, and hang it up to be adored by the masses!
Other comments or suggestions to consider:
Tacky glue is probably the safest bet for small children, and it affords them the most independence.
Protect your work surface with newspaper, and/or work outside!
If you don't have a button collection, some craft stores offer crazy buttons by the li'l bagful---but it's more fun to use old buttons from your own stash. Have you ever been to a garage sale or rummage sale where the stuff was so cheap, things were worth buying just to cut off the buttons? Such a country we live in! Enjoy it!
Confession: I didn't make this myself; I found it at a rummage sale. But having seen it, my daughter wants to make one of her own, so I thought it might be of interest to other kids and parents. This sort of thing looks way spiffy in a sewing room, and Momma's Day is coming!
