4 Star Gift Idea Rating

Appropriate age group(s):
Preschool and Younger
Elementary School
Middle School

Estimated time to make this gift:
Approximately one hour.

Materials:
Aluminum pie plates
Nail and hammer
Cardboard
Paper
A crayon or marker

Instructions:
1. Place the cardboard across the table in order to protect the table's surface as you hammer.
2. Draw a design on the paper with the marker. Your design can be anything you want such as: Happy Holidays, Home Sweet Home, I Love Grandpa, etc. Be creative and include both words and a simple picture (like a flower or a snowman--something that reflects the message or the person it is being made for).
3. Tape the piece of paper to the pie plate. (This may be easier if you cut the paper into a circle that matches the pie plate first). 4. Use the nail and hammer to punch out the design into the plate.
5. To hang, you can use a glue gun or tape to attach a soda-pop ring to the back of the plate.
6. For a more fancy looking tin, add lace, fabric or ribbon around the edge of the plate. Tie a fabric bow to the soda-pop ring too.

Other comments or suggestions to consider:
This project is a great way to make personalized gifts that include names or special dates and events in your family. Use your imagination when it comes to the design, but keep in mind that simple is probably best. This makes a great birthday gift too.
