4 Star Gift Idea Rating

Appropriate age group(s):
Preschool and Younger
Elementary School
Middle School

Estimated time to make this gift:
45 minutes, including cooking time

Materials:
Polymer Clay, such as Sculpey

Instructions:
Soften the clay by rolling into a snake & doubling it back over. When it is warm & pliable, roll it into a pancake. The pancake should be just larger than your child's hand & about 1/4" thick.

Using a toothpick, write your child's name and the date on the back, leaving room for the keepsake's feet, if desired.

Turn the pancake to the smooth top & gently press your child's hand or foot into the clay.

Optional keepsake feet: After making your impression, use additional clay to form small feet. These can be small spheres or cubes. Twist slightly to adhere them to the bottom.

Bake the keepsake according to your clay's directions, typically 15 minutes at 275 F.

Take out of the oven and allow to cool.

Other comments or suggestions to consider:
Our MOMS Club really enjoyed this activity. The older toddlers had a blast rolling and sculpting the clay, while the little ones played. We were able to do 7 keepsakes in about 1 hour. The leftover clay has many other uses and does not dry out if left out.
