Birthday party planning information:
I held a Wizard of Oz birthday party at our ice rink (you can have it at home as well).

I decorated with all Wizard of Oz decorations. I bought tiny little baskets to hold candy, lining it with the blue/white check napkins (like Dorothy's dress) and attached a red slipper made from red paper & sparkles with each child's name to the basket for table placements. I played the music from the movie during the party.

We had 'Pin the Heart' on the Tin Man, which I made from cardboard covered with aluminum foil and markers to make the face.

I made a 'Yellow Brick Road' leading into the party room out of yellow bristol board (drawing the brick with black markers).

We made Wizard of Oz puppets on a stick (large doctor tongue sticks, with blue/white check fabric for Dorothy's dress and brown yarn for her hair made into tiny braids, brown tiny pom poms for the lion with brown pipe cleaners bent into make the lion's mane) and markers, pink felt etc. to make the faces.

Younger children made lion masks with paper plates, brown construction paper cut into strips for the mane, cotton balls for the cheeks, felt, markers, and a doctor tongue stick taped onto the bottom so they can hold it in front of their faces to play.

I made a cake with the yellow brick road leading to the castle of Oz.

For the loot bags, all the children received a Wizard of Oz book I found at the dollar store and a small basket filled with assorted sweets, a small dog (Toto), red plastic dress up shoes for the girls, etc.
