Birthday party planning information:
Powerpuff Girls: getting crime off our streets, and all before Bedtime. Gotta love it!
In fact, that does almost suggest a Slumber Party, for those old enough to enjoy it. That would involve an evening meal; perhaps "who can make a mini pizza (English muffin base) that looks most like Mojo Jojo, the evil monkey?" Or just send out for Pizza, and make some cookies later; remember, the Professor created the Powerpuff Girls out of "sugar and spice, and everything nice," plus one mysterious ingredient. So, a little Kitchen Science is a natural here.
Spread out some old blankets and Picnic in the family room, and watch the Powerpuff Girls in action on TV. When it's time for light's out, you may need to read something a little less Action-Packed to settle 'em down.
There is a music CD and cassette put out by Cartoon Network, which might enhance your basic Dance Party time, musical chairs, or any other party games of your choosing. This includes songs like "Go Monkey Go," "Walk and Chew Gum," "Friends Win" and ten other songs.
Making jewelry will generally be a winning activity for girls. Young ones may be happiest and safest constructing theirs of red licorice laces and Fruit Loops n' Cheerios, while older girls will love to make bracelets and necklaces from colorful beads.
Beauty Parlor is a great activity. Who sez crimefighters don't care about their looks? Nail Salon involves manicure and pedicure, with nail polish that is sparkly, neon, or both...hair can be styled, and then there is the Power Puff Bows, so essential to the party photos. The bigger the bows, the better, in neon Pink, Blue, and Green. Attach them to clips, ribbons, or headbands, and let the girls get Stylin'. Let them keep their bows.
What other sort of things make a good take-home item? How 'bout these possibilities: little cheap plastic purses; bathtime soap foam, or sample sized bath gels and a colorful Shower Puff; nail polish; Lollipops; Starburst fruit chews; Soap Bubbles; Bubble Gum; flower seed packet; puzzle books; a notepad and pencil for Crime Fighting Clues. If you watch the show a few times, ideas will pop into your mind. Consider the age of your guests when choosing, and keep Safety in mind, at all times.
Have an assortment of art materials on hand for spontaneous crafting, or just drawing. If you are blessed with pleasant weather in the daytime, make use of some of it, outdoors.
Treasure Hunts can be held indoors or out. Have clues (written, or pictured) that lead to some of the Villains the Powerpuff Girls are always battling with on the show. Bring those bad guys to justice! Wake up the Mayor! Find Miss Bellum! Issue small prizes for the effort.
Other suggestions or comments:
More food ideas: Powerpuff Fruit Salad, with pink watermelon, blueberries, and green grapes. Gelatin blocks or cubes in those same colors. And in Cookie Recipes of "What Works," we have a recipe for a Colorful Cookie (spritz) that is flavored and colored with about any flavor of gelatin; I personally have never tried the Blue ;-)
Cupcakes can be made to look like the Powerpuff Girls: Pink cupcakes, with superhero features of Gummy Fruit Slice hairstyles. Faces have bits o' black licorice lace for smiles, M&M eyeballs w/small bit of frosting to make make the eyes more cartoon-goofy.
Another option is to have plain "blank" sugar cookies or cupcakes on hand for the guests to decorate with an assortment of Cool things, any way they choose. Or, a basic Party Cake with Power Puff Girls figures on top.
One more "hands on" activity that kids of all ages find to be fun is working with home-made play dough. Homemade playdough can be colored and scented with 3 same-flavor packets of unsweetened Koolaid.
Watch younger kids to be sure they don't Eat the playdough, but it's hard to imagine anyone really swallowing it, because it's Way salty ;-) There is a recipe for this in What Works...probably in Family Recipes, wherever the sort of Oddball recipes got placed ;-)
Do try to avoid having this dough ground into Carpet, though!!!
