4 Star Idea Rating

Age group(s) for this birthday party activity:
Elementary School
Middle School

Cost of birthday party activity:
$20-$40, depending on size of group and sale shopping for party favors. Dollar stores usually have inexpensive flashlights. Buy pre-made food, or make it yourself.

Birthday party planning information:
This party is for warm weather and fenced backyards. Make arrangements to have 2-3 tents (depending on size). Set them up ahead of the party. Invite kids to bring their sleeping bags and overnight stuff. Find sticks for roasting.

Other suggestions or comments:
If you feel energetic, you can plan to take the group on a birthday trail hike. Bring water & trail mix. Back at home, roast hot dogs in the fireplace, on the grill or over a small backyard campfire. On pie tins, serve pork & beans, potato salad, fresh fruit & chips. Have cake & ice cream and open presents. Play a party game if you have lots of time. At dark, give each child a glow stick or a flashlight as a party favor (put names on each). Sing camp songs, tell stories, or watch an outdoor movie (bring TV/VCR outside). Set out sleeping bags, make popcorn and kids can watch from the tent. An adult (or two) should sleep in tents as well. This party is alot of effort, but is guaranteed to make long lasting memories.
