Elementary School
Middle School

Cost of birthday party activity:
Doesn't cost a thing!

Birthday party planning information:
This is an activity that kids can do at any birthday party--indoor or outdoor. Have one child leave the room so that they can't see what's going on. Have the other kids stand in a circle and hold hands. One by one, have each child cross the circle (never letting go of the next person's hand) until a human knot is formed.

Have the person who left the rooom come back and try to give directions to "unknot" the human knot without letting anyone unclasp their hands! This is definitely an ice-breaker and can be loads of fun!

Other suggestions or comments:
Tell kids to be careful not to put themselves in positions that are too uncomfortable since it could take a while to "unknot!"
