4 Star Idea Rating

Appropriate age group(s):
Preschool and Younger
Elementary School
Middle School

Estimated time to make this decoration:
15 minutes and up

Materials:
1 pkg sugar wafer ice cream cones (the pointed ones)
1 container vanilla frosting
green food coloring
1/4 cup of sugar
assorted jelly candies, christmas candies and lollipops

Instructions:
1. Cut jellies into small pieces and roll in the sugar. This is to coat the candies so they won't be as sticky.
2. Place the rest of the candies on plates.
3. Put vanilla frosting in bowl.
4. Add a few drops of green food coloring to frosting and mix. Add more food coloring if you like it darker.
5. Turn cones upside down on plates/cookie sheets. Make sure there is a hole in the point of the cone just large enough to push the stick of the lollipop through.
6. Using a plastic knife, offset spatula, or the back of a spoon, spread the frosting on the cone to create your tree. It looks better if the frosting is not flat.
7. Use the candies like ornaments to decorate the tree.
8. Push the lollipop through the point of the cone to top off the tree.
9. Now you can make an entire forest or add it to a gingerbread house.

Other comments or suggestions to consider:
You can use powdered meringue instead of frosting.
Experiment with different candies, licorice, decorative lollipops....
