4 Star Idea Rating

Appropriate age group(s):
Elementary School
Middle School

Estimated time to make this decoration:
Approximately one hour.

Materials:
For traditional snowflakes:

White paper
Scissors

For 3-D snowflakes:

Toothpicks
Mini-marshmallows

Instructions:
Traditional snowflakes:

1. Paper snowflakes can be as simple or as complicated as you want to make them. Just fold a piece of white paper over itself several times.

2. Then, make a variety of cut-outs along all of the folds.
3. Open up the piece of paper and you have yourself a snowflake.

3-D snowflakes:

1. Have fun inserting toothpicks into marshmallows and connect them to other toothpicks (similar to the way K'NEX building sets work). You can make them as big or as small as you like or in any shape you can imagine. And just like in nature, no two are ever alike.

Other comments or suggestions to consider:
Make enough paper snowflakes to decorate all of the front windows of your house. Use glitter sticks to make them sparkle. Serve hot chocolate (with some of the mini-marshmallows) while you're making them.
