Instructions for using this strategy:
My son has a very hard time with comprehenion when he reads a book to himself. If he reads aloud or if I read to him and ask specific questions, he does extremely well. I believe schools need to take a look at different testing procedures before they start labeling a child with "special needs." Tests that would benefit the child and not state or district requirements.
What is the benefit to the child with reading problems?
I believe if the child's "learning ability" is discovered, teachers should modify the way they teach the child either by giving oral tests instead of written exams or having the child be able to recite a book into a tape recorder to be listened to later by him/her. The benefits the child will receive are immense and the sense of pride will be overflowing.
