3 Star Strategy Rating

Age group(s) for which this strategy is helpful:
Preschool and Younger
Elementary School

Instructions for using this strategy:
Teach the sounds for every letter, then teach the sounds of word blends, (cr, dr, sl...) and so on. I have two, 6 yr olds reading at a 3rd grade level using this method.

What is the benefit to the child with reading problems?
Learning the sounds of letters, especially the sound blends, helps them sound out the words easier. They hear it before they say it.
