Instructions for using this strategy:
Lead by example. If your child sees you reading anything, including newspapers and magazines, then they will be more willing to do it. Go to the library with the kids, let them see you checking out books.

What is the benefit to the child with reading problems?
If they see you as a parent reading, they will be more likely to give it a try. Make it fun. Choose a book that is about their favorite subject.
