3 Star Strategy Rating

Age group(s) for which this strategy is helpful:
Preschool and Younger
Elementary School

Instructions for using this strategy:
Use nursery rhymes, song lyrics, and funny poetry (such as Shel Silverstein's books). Start by reading to your child first and have your child follow what you are reading. As the material becomes familiar to your child, your child can start to "read" it by anticipating what the next word will be. Your child will memorize the words to the song or the poem. Then when he sees the words on paper as he hears them or says them, they will become sight words.

What is the benefit to the child with reading problems?
This will help your child improve his reading fluency.
