Age group(s) for which this strategy is helpful: Elementary School Middle School High School & Beyond
Instructions for using this strategy:
Have your child read to younger siblings or other children. Your child can choose a book that he is comfortable reading and one that a younger child would enjoy hearing.
Variation: Your child can make his own books on tape for younger kids to use. Not only can an individual child listen to them, but also they can be used in a school environment. Just include a photo of the reader with the audiotape. What a great confidence booster!
What is the benefit to the child with reading problems?
This strategy enables your child to practice reading at his own level while gaining status in the eyes of the younger children.
