Chocolate Oatmeal Cookies (No Bake!)

Ingredients: (Hit your return key to start a new line)
1 stick (1/2 c.) butter

1/2 c. cocoa

2 c. sugar

1/2 c. milk

3 c. quick oats

1/2 c. peanut butter

1 tsp. vanilla extract

Directions:
Combine butter, cocoa, sugar and milk in a large saucepan; stir and simmer until bubbles form around the edge of the saucepan, and mixture appears smoothly blended.
Remove from heat.

Add oats, peanut butter, and vanilla. Stir thoroughly.

Drop by rounded Tablespoonful on waxed paper; cool. Store in a container in a cool place. Place container in refrigerator, if storing for a considerable time.

Other suggestions and comments:
This is very popular with children and adults alike, despite the "homely" appearance of the cookies! The recipe circulated quite a bit in the 60's and 70's. I have changed the margarine to butter for a richer cookie.

It's a nice compromise between nutrition and Chocolate Cravings!

We usually add the recipe to the package when we give these to someone as a gift, so that they realize what it is they are eating (note that peanuts are an allergen for some), and so they can make a batch of their own.

Younger children require lots of supervision when making these, and Everyone should be cautious with the hot mixture!

If you happen to have just Old Fashioned oats on hand, they can be run through a blender or a food processor Briefly.
