Describe the best gift you ever received or gave:
The best gift I ever gave my dad for Father's Day (based on his reaction) was a restored set of old movie footage that I found in his closet.

He had boxes and boxes of old movie-camera film footage that his father had shot through the years as he was growing up. There was black and white footage of him and my grandma playing in the park, and footage from when he first started dating my mother (they were young teens). The films were warped and beginning to fade, so I took them to a photo lab that restored old photos and movie-camera footage and had them all spliced onto one reel, copied, and darkened in tone (to bring back some of the color). They also made a copy for VCR-viewing, which turned out to be the best gift of all.

My father was really touched and thrilled to be able to see all the footage from years ago simply by popping a video into the VCR. He still pulls out the tape every now and then to view it again.

What made this gift extra-special?
This gift was personal, something my father wouldn't have taken the time to do on his own (given his crazy schedule), and it's a gift that keeps on giving through the years.
