My 14-year-old has ADHD. I spoke with his teachers today and they said he is on a second and third grade level. He is labeled as Educatable Mentally Disabled (EMD). He can learn things if he wants to. He loves trains and will read all the information he can find on them. How can I teach him some things at home? What websites might help me?
How is your son's listening comprehension? One of the best things you can do for him is read books to him that he may not be able to read himself. You can also get books on tape for him from Recordings for the Blind and Dyslexic at http://www.rfbd.org.
He would also probably enjoy and benefit from using CD ROM encyclopedias that have heavy graphics including video clips. ENCARTA is a good computer-based encyclopedia, but there are many others available. You might want to talk with the computer teacher at your son's school for other suggestions.
A wealth of general resources that you can access from the web can be found at http://www.disabilityresources.org.
