Punishing and Grounding Your Teen Daughter

Punishing and Grounding Your Teen Daughter

You probably won't know it by looking at her, but your daughter is afraid of confrontation and punishment. Nonetheless, there are times when her misbehavior must be accounted for and punishment must be meted out with the same good rationale demonstrated by authoritative parental models.

Rules of Punishment

  1. Apply reason and rationale behind taking the car away, lowering her curfew time, or issuing those effective grounding orders.
  2. Emphasize that the punishment is being given because you are concerned about your child's well-being.
  3. Do not give a punishment that humiliates your daughter.
  4. Do not punish your daughter to a degree that will alienate her from you and make it impossible for her to love and trust you.
