Third-graders spend a lot of time on basic facts, and that includes adding whole numbers and money. You may remember learning how to "carry" numbers when you were learning to add. She's since gone on to learn how to make change and add up small sums. Let her practice with the contents of your wallet and change jar! Be aware that making change can be tricky at first, so keep it simple.
