Consequences

You can help to drive home the importance of cleaning up after an arts & crafts activity, by setting up an experiment using art supplies.

Consequences

Time

  • 5 to 10 minutes

Materials

  • Plastic containers
  • Paint
  • Clay or play dough

Directions

  1. Children can be lazy about putting craft materials away. You can help to drive home the importance of deciding to clean up properly by setting up an experiment with small amounts of different kinds of paints, clays, or play dough.
  2. Put some into containers with lids and leave some out.
  3. Leave overnight and check together to see what happens to the materials the next day.

Extensions

  • Help your child try to reconstitute the dried-out material with warm water to see if it can be salvaged.
