Not sure when...

Hi, My husband and I have a one year old and we are thinking about trying to have another baby. With my daughter I got off birth control and we immediately got pregnant. I was completely surprised. I am not really sure when the right time to try is. I have heard so many different things. Anyone know? Thanks!

The right time is when you and your husband feel you can handle another child in your family. The debate about kids being months apart or years apart will go on forever.

Either way, leaving a big gap or having them close together, have their own merits. I had three under 5's at one time. My oldest children were 3 1/2 and 2 1/2 when third was born. They grew up very close and always had someone to play with or side with them when needed. I then had a gap of 16 years before I was surprised to find out I was pregnant again. My youngest was like an only child in a lot of ways because his brothers and sister were nearly adults. I found that I had a lot more time to really get to know him.

Hi there! I, like you, was fortunate enough to get pregnant right away after getting off the pill. I was surprised too but felt blessed that we cld have a baby so quickly, especially after hearing all the stories of women who can't get pregnant. While breastfeeding my son, I figured I wld never get pregnant, so I didn't use birth control. Surprise! Pregnant again w/ baby #2! My kids are 15 mos apart. In the beginning it felt like having twins. Now, though, it's great! My boys are best buddies. It really depends on your situation. We didn't plan it this way, it just happened. I probably wld've waited til my older son was out of diapers b/c the expense of 2 in diapers is a big one. I also feel like I have more time my younger guy now that his brother's in school. W/ my oldest son, though, I didn't get to do as much w/ him b/c of the baby. So there's pros and cons. You have to do what's best for your personal situation. Good luck!
