Future teacher seeking advice about students with special needs

Hello everyone!
I am a college student currently enrolled in an Education course dealing with students with special needs. I plan on majoring in Elementary/Special Education. The chapter in which we are studying now discusses the effects of a child's disability on the family and collaboration between the family and teachers. Are there any parents out there with students with special needs that could reflect on some of these issues? Any and all replies are so appreciated! I am hoping by posting this I will gain knowledge in order to become the best teacher I possibly can be.
Thank you all so much!
